Science Literacy of 15-Year-Olds From Twelve Selected Countries 2003

The data for the four charts measuring the literacy and problem-solving ability of 15-year-olds around the world were derived from the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) sponsored by the OECD. Over a quarter of a million students in 41 countries took part in a test that assessed skills in mathematics, reading, science and problem solving. All 30 OECD member countries participated, as well as 11 partner countries, including Hong Kong and the Russian Federation. Together with the first assessment in 2000, the two surveys represent a total of one-third of the world’s population and almost 90% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product.
