Composition of 2007 Federal Spending

All of the broad spending categories of the 2007 federal budget have previously been mentioned or discussed in one or more of the budget charts. This chart assembles the major components to illustrate the actual spending for the fiscal year that ended September 30, 2007 during which the U.S. Government spent $2.73 trillion.

that defense part and interest part look too big. Problem is too many weapons and tanks that never get used are being built by our government just as giveaways to Lockheed Martin, or some pork project. One thing you forgot to add was the WAR IN IRAQ. God knows how much government spending is going into that pit. Blackwater and Halliburton are part of that problem too.

One astute reader, Larry Dosh, points out that interest of $237 billion used here is actually interest on the publicly held portion of the national debt, or net interest. Interest paid between departments of the government (for the Social Security Trust Fund) is NOT included in this number. See this chart for a look at publicly held debt vs. intragovernmental holdings. See this chart for an explanation of intragovernmental holdings.

I would like to see a chart showing the cost of illegal immigration, including the money sent to the home countries of the illegal immigrants.
