I caught the show on my drive home. Ross Perot is a breath of fresh air! It was bizarre to hear someone give straight talk on fiscal issues without pointing fingers at the opposition party. The thing from the interview that stood out most was Perot’s repeated reference to Americans as uneducated people who make decisions based on emotion instead of rational reason. Thank you for having the courage to state the truth!

I think it was sort of funny how Rita Cosby was trying to coax Ross into commenting on partisan issues between Republicans and Democrats this election.

I don’t think he was right to focus the problem on an uneducated public. Often people can be swayed emotionally, like Ross says, because they don’t fully understand the issues and one party is able to manipulate how they’re presented. But there are many well educated people who become bitter partisans and become blinded because they’re so zealous about their politics.

A large part of the problem in politics today I think is corruption, the people who become interested in politics become partisans who want to win at any cost, and the rest of the public becomes apathetic. People who are apathetic become not fully and can be manipulated.

But I’d hope Ross could give the public more credit on their intelligence.

Admiral Stockdale who ran with Perot once quoted someone who pointed out that with soldiers that were prisoners of war, the ones who were most easily manipulated by their captors were the ones who were educated but not fully educated. The captors would try to convince the POWs that America was a bad country, and the least educated simply refused to believe what the captors were telling them, and the most educated knew when the captors were distorting history. The soldiers who knew some things about American history but not enough, were able to be manipulated because the captors used their knowledge against them, by trying to cast doubts in their minds.

I downloaded the show and agree that this is a breath of fresh air.

Thank you, Mr. Perot for not caving into Rita’s determination to change an information conversation into a political support statement. I appreciate you not declaring your position and keeping the information delivery focus on the facts about energy use and the needed effort to educate people and show people that decision-making with a basis in fact rather than emotional marketing has better outcomes.

I hope to hear more from Mr. Perot and will continue to enjoy this website. The charts and comments help me explain to others the facts. The website gives me a place to point to that others can read the facts for themselves.

Thank you. America, Americans not politicians, are pulling together to get this job done and we have Mr. Perot, Mr. Pickens, and Mr. (Roy) Beck, and Mr. Hoffmeister and others are showing us real leadership with credible ideas on preserving America, her resources, and her strength.

    Two comments to your comment:

First, Ross was not attacking “an uneducated public.” He was, rather, faulting an educational system that had failed to sufficiently educate the public to the point that it could not be swayed by mere rhetoric. He made this point at least three times during the interview when he told Rita that one of the most important objectives for the future of our country was to make certain that our children are well educated. He would not be making this point if he thought it was impossbile to educate the public beyond its current level.

Second, we cannot verify that, in fact, Admiral Stockdale once quoted someone who said something about certain POWs being easily manipulated. We are uncertin about the conclusion that you are trying to draw in the last paragraph. We wanted to make this point, because our silence might otherwise be taken as tacit approval of your remarks—however someone might choose to interpret them.

I have not listened to the broadcast but I did go through the slideshow. To me it is most amazing that the spending by the US Govt. closely resembles that of a typical person…or at least me at this point in my life.

We have to possibly get a 2nd job, but since I own my company perhaps I should work harder, and/or cut spending in areas that are needless. In the govt. perspective, what is wrong with raising taxes to corporate entities and reducing entitlements?

Also I have one question that I know someone can answer. My understanding of cycles is that no matter who is in charge our system is so big and complex it takes years to either implement or undo changes enacted. What occurred in Senior Bush’s presidency might actually have help the popularity of Clinton on surpluses. What is the time lag of each offices work?

I am really happy that the responses section of this website has an editor, who makes sure the statements of those of us who post have our facts straight.

Recently, I posted a statement or so which could not be verified and the editor caught it, preventing me from scattering misinformation.

By the way, Mr. Perot has a long record of support for genuine education practices and reform. I believe he chaired the Texas educational reform commission back in the 1980s, and that commission had a good deal of success in improving education in that state.

In addition, education played a large part in his Presidential campaigns, and he has discussed educational issues in TV interviews many times.

Perot Charts on future of economy and energy
I copied this chart from a HighBeam.com web page about three years ago. Since then the progress in hydrogen energy technology has increased exponentially and the potential for implementation of the necessary infrastructure has as well. Hydrogen, wind, solar, natural gas, and geothermal seem to be the most viable alternatives. Perhaps the Oil corps. are blocking progress in these areas. Coal, nuclear, ethanol, and oil have tremendous disadvantages in term of cost and harm to the environment. I am a great admirer of you, Mr. Perot and of Boone Pickens.
    Thank you, Ed Young

I certainly am not a Bush fan. I do however find it amussing that he is responsible for our present financial disaster. No doubt he has contributed, but so many before him have too. In my opinion, this collapse was initiated in 1919 when the Federal Reserve was established. I can go to great lengths trying to explain this…however, it is primary that WE THE PEOPLE understand just a few basic and simple facts. No. 1
There is nothing, nothing at all Federal about the Federal Reserve. It is an entity of itself. No. 2. We surrendered all of our Gold to the Fed when it was first established in 1919. This was done by Woodrow Wilson. Subsiquently, the government eliminated Gold Certificates (No More Gold Backing for our Money) to the Silver Standard. No. 3
During the Nixon years, the government gave all of our Silver to the Feds to pay down our debts to them. No more Silver Certificates. No. 4. Beings we have no Gold nor Silver just what collateral does the government have for our Money. The Government has very very little…Treasury Notes etc. so guess who and what backs our good ole american dollar. No 5. The Good Faith of the American People. (translation: any and all assets we own free and clear. Property, any item with a deed or title and personal items. No. 6 The Good Faith of the American People as of today amount too approximately $45,000 for every adult in the United States. If your married its double that amount. No. 7 Well just who is the Government in Debt too? Take a look at any printed paper money…across the top are 3 Words. FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE. Well, the politians have put we the people in debt to the Feds by totally mishandling OUR $$ No 8. Do they care…not really, their not accountable.
No. 9 The final joke the Banks and Government are spewing to We the People is: Do not worry any monies in any FDIC bank is insured for up to $100,000 per depositor. True BUT….Remember when dealing with either a Bank or the Government there is ALWAYS A BUT…..Believe this or not (but it is true) the banks will pay you back the money you have in their banks up to the 100 grand however they can TAKE UP TO 100 YEARS TO DO IT. That my friends is a fact….Look at the Banking Regulation about Insurance on Deposits.

Hang on…Its going to get interesting …… The Politians will be ah, ah, ah ahing and umm umm umming a whole lot.

One in particular should really be shaking. The Honorable Chris Dodd. Chairman of the Congressional Banking Committe. This Drunk has taken millions and millions of dollars from the lobbiest representing Fanny May and Freddy Mac with the condition he put pressure on Banks to purchase Fanny and Freddy’s worthless paper with the promise that government will back all this paper. He should be crucified…but knowing politians and how they operate this will be swept under the carpet and excused as a triviality in this mess.
Our Politians truly do look out for we the people don’t they.

I believe our first mistake was the invention of the microwave. it is funny how every family had to have one. for the first time in our lives we did not have to work hard to prepare a meal, we could just microwave one.
one of the most important things to our forefathers was ownership. it was not just that they owned a house, but they worked hard to earn it for their families. Most people paid for their homes in cash(what?). yeah, sure that is unheard of now. we have microwave loans, microwave homes, microwave cars, and even microwave families. Think about it, by the time most people pay off their homes, they have paid for it at least twice. The norm used to be if you can’t afford it dont get it. now it is, if you cant afford it finance it.
since the microwave era, we have not taken pride in our work. you find more and more people half doing jobs. even home building is different. new houses usually have major problems because the builders are not concerened with quality but with quantity. The goods that we purchase now are inferior. i blame us for setting our standards so low. we have come so preocupied with cost that we do not question where it comes from.
together we can change the country around.1. pay cash 2. buy U.S(when you can)
    3. teach your children 4. demand quality 5. by all means”throw away those microwaves”
